Okay so now what you have all been waiting for. Explanation as to what's going on with transfer from the old map to the new map. Let me start by saying that we decided to do it this way after much discussion and looking at the bringing players into the new map. I will explain our decision in as much detail as possible so you can understand why we decided to do everything this way. We will not be using vaults to bring items over to the new map. Instead we have opted for a point based system where you can pick and choose a certain number of items from different categories to bring over. Keep in mind this is still reserved for Ruby donors or higher. So what is the Kickstart System? It's pretty simple. Different types of items are separated into different categories. Each items is worth a certain number of points and each category has a point limit. You can pick and choose what items to bring from each category but can not break that point limit. This gives you the flexibility to pick and choose what you want to bring to the new world but at the same time limits the amount of items we are allowing players to bring over. This is to keep the new map fresh and the economy interesting instead of immediately flooding it with top tier items. Why didn't we go with the vault system? Well, originally we had thought of using the system as a way for players to keep valuable items in a vault and in the event of an unexpected map wipe they wouldn't lose everything. We didn't know how many problems we would run into with Tekkit and wanted to ensure a safe place for donors to keep their items. The thing with Tekkit 3 is it offers the perfect time for us to start the map anew. We want a fresh start without BuildCraft and Forestry all over the map. We want to see the world develop and change without those items in place. This is the reason we are opting to control and limit the amount of items players are able to bring over. In essence though, no one is actually bringing items to the new map. You will give us a list that is within the point limit and we will have those items ready for you in the new map. You do not have to necessarily already own the items. Consider it free items. You choose what you want and we give you it! Do not expect large quantities of items. In fact some of you may be slightly disappointed with the small item limit we will have in place. I apologize for this and I know this may let some of you down but we truly believe its best for the server in the long run. Read on for what the exact categories and item limits will be Item Limits Power Generation & Storage (Point Limit: 10) This category includes all IC2 related power generation and RP2 solar panels. You can not bring Nuclear Power. All power items are equal to their base item count. This means that items like Low Voltage Solar Arrays are worth 8 points because they take 8 solar panels to craft. A Batbox is worth one point and a MFE is worth 2. MFSU's are not permitted. (Ex. 10 solar panels = 10 Points. 1 LV Solar Array + 2 Solar Panels = 10 Points) Machines (Point Limit: 6) This category includes all IC2 machinery. Canners, Macerators, Electric Furnaces and higher. If an item takes a standard machine block it is worth 1 point. Items that require advanced machine blocks are worth 3 points. Terraformers/Mass Fabricators/Teleporters are not allowed. (Ex. Rotary Macerator + Electric Furnace + Canning Machine + Extractor = 6 Points) RP2 Machines (Point Limit: 5) This category includes all RedPower2 machinery. Battery boxes, transposers, filters, buffers, etc! Each item is worth 1 point. Resources (Point Limit: 192 [3 stacks]) This category is for all base resource items. If you have to craft it, then it is not a base resource. Saplings, diamonds, iron, etc are all base resources. If you are unsure if something is a base resource feel free to ask. Iron is worth 3 points each and Diamond is worth 10 points each! Ores are not permitted. Only items in their smelted form. Iron Ingots are okay. Iron Ore is not. ------------------------------------------ If you have any questions as to how the system works feel free to ask in this thread. I will shortly put up a thread where you can compile your list of what you would like for your kickstart package in the next map. I will have a little more details about the list format in that thread and details as to how quickly you will get your package and how we will distribute it. REQUEST HERE: http://www.sgtekkit.net/threads/request-your-kickstart-package-in-here.3058/ Thanks guys. I know this isn't what some of you expected for the system but what I can tell you is a system that will work just like the Vaults were supposed to work will be immediately available as soon as we start the next map!
Stram clarified it for me in-game. The only people getting to move anything over to the new map will be Ruby donors and above. Sorry for my reaction, Stram. Just wish I had seen it coming a month or so ago so I wouldn't have poured quite a few hours into HV's and other systems.
Well.. this sucks..I really don't think I will even bother to transfer items then.. This point limit is way to strict! Everything you can transfer with this point limit can be archived in less then a day... I have been on this server for over 2 Months.. Would I apply this point system to the things I have, it would be in the thousands.. I never expected to be able to transfer all my HV's, but starting completly new.. I don't really know if I can bring myself to go punching trees again.. The fun in Tekkit for me is creating elaborate machines.. not mining and resouce gathering..I would play vannilia then. /ragepost
Sometimes you can't just give the community what they want. It may not be in the best interest for the server in the long run. You may not agree with the system and that is your choice. You can feel free to ignore it or stop playing here. I know it sucks to go through a map wipe and this isn't my first time having to do one. Ive seen people come and go because of them and I will not convince you to stay. You just need to understand its not just about pleasing each and every player individually. Its about making the server better for everyone! The new map offers a ton of great things that we wouldn't get if we let large amounts of premade machinery immediately over. You are asking for a ruined economy with something like that. We will have a good tick rate and a map free of buildcraft/forestry. Untouched resources ready to be found and Ruby donors and higher get a pretty awesome headstart. Thats not even including the massive amount of new features available in Tekkit 3. I am sorry you do not agree with our decision here but I hope you can understand that it had to be made.
Nah, i just wanted to make a rage post once, don't worry.. I agree with your decions, transfering the current setups would prevent an economy from getting established ( Massproducing UU etc.. )so the benefits will hopefully outweight the downsides, atleast if this does not become a regular thing. Im still really looking forward to Tekkit 3.0 and of course Im gonna stick around; Don't want to miss out on desiging Zephyrus Incs. awsome new RP2 powered pool.. Edit: Can i get 5 Framemotors ? Then im happy again..
So I'm thinking of donating to Ruby, and I have a question. Which category do tools (Picks, drills, axes etc.) fit under? Are we allowed to bring them?
Thanks for the clairification. As a new player, I was feeling a little apprehensiveness about all the transfer rumors and theories. Is there a set cut-off date for kit requests yet? For those still trying to save for a decent donation level...
As of right now there is no cut-off date. It could happen at any time after Tekkit 3 launches on the server though.
This: awesome. Thank you for limiting transfers this harshly. I think this is great for the server. Now my hardcore restart doesn't seem quite as insane.
i was meaning as the whole server i didn't know if he was doing credit transferring(complete, partiality or not at all)
Could the donor vault still exist but not allow items to pass between maps? I think it could still be cool to have a vault portal for just you, items can be kept 100% safe, and included into your base design. I agree on the limits to map transfers, but just a thought on a way to have a "secret" vault in my new base.
Can we bring over cables and wires? What category would those go into? And also, how was the amount of points for each group decided? I'm assuming you guys just didn't pick random numbers.
